Court Reporters & Court Reporting

Court reporting and court reporters will be experiencing many changes in the coming new decade. Certainly, technology is evolving so rapidly in our culture that I am sure there will be many new technologies that court reporters and court reporting firms will be using that are unknown to us today. With our new economy, I am sure many of the new technologies that court reporters will be embracing will involve cost-savings to both the court reporter and the legal profession. There is a tremendous focus now more than ever on ways to cut costs and lower page rates. Not something either court reporters or court reporting firm owners want to hear but that is the new reality. And so as our prices decrease the same way as other industries and jobs shrink, it is a time of reflection of how we as owners will meet the new economy and still maintain work for our reporters and the same level of income. I must admit, it is not an easy task. But new technologies bring new opportunities and we must keep our ears and eyes open for the new opportunities which will be knocking on our doors. Court reporting is changing and the role and functions of court reporters will be changing too, and we as a profession must stay alert and look for new opportunities for our new evolving industry.
